How to Make Halloween Ghost Lights for Free

This craft cost us nothing and was a fun way for us to decorate the stairs up to our front door for trick or treaters. We collected empty gallon milk cartons for weeks. Then we had a great time with our kiddo drawing spooky faces on each one. I cut an opening in the back, weighed it down with a rock, and stuffed in some white Christmas lights. Voila! It really looks great at night. Picture coming soon.

My gas company’s 10 tips for saving on winter energy bills

My gas company sent me a brochure in October with tips to prepare my home for the winter to help me spend less on the gas bill! I truly enjoy when my utility companies send me tips on how to save money by giving them less of it! Ha ha, it’s quite a deal, really. I often wonder if they do this because they want their customers to be more likely to be able to afford and, therefore, pay their…

why we love our electric vehicle

Our Nissan Leaf is electric! (Boogie woogie)

We have owned an electric lawn mower for more than a decade and it continues to be one of our greatest larger purchases ever. (I go on and on about why it’s been so great in this other post.) So, when we unexpectedly found ourselves in need of a new vehicle, we were naturally interested in electric vehicles. Unsurprisingly, this month we bought a pre-owned electric vehicle! I’m in love! And it’s only been a few days. Here’s why it…

Get Max Dollar for Your Totaled Car

Get Max Dollar for Your Totaled Car

I started googling ways to get money for a totaled car.…

Old bread for the birds

We try not to let any food go to waste, but it happens anyway sometimes. When it’s stale bread, I like to provide a treat for the birds. Though I’m not sure if they’re the only ones who enjoy it. ? I recently gave the kiddo a few stale slices of bread and she put them all over our bird feeders. The next day, the bread was completely gone and the bird feeders looked like this: Maybe I need to…

Set up a mudroom space in the smallest entryway

Every day, I’d notice one of my daughter’s tiny plastic chairs over by the basement door. I asked my husband about it and he said he was doing that so he’d have a place to sit and put on his shoes before leaving for work in the mornings. That got me thinking. How could I make the set up better for him so he didn’t resort to using plastic kiddy chairs? And how could I do it with things We…

Reusing empty wallflower from Bath & Body Works

I found this idea on Pinterest and finally got around to trying it today! It was quite simple, truly-and I just used supplies I already had at the house (body spray). I used pliers to pop the wick off the top, filled it half with body spray and half with water, and then snapped the wick back in. That’s it! I’ll be checking to see if the scent smells good in our basement later this morning. EDIT: The scent was…

How to fix leaky coasters

How to fix your leaky coasters and prevent water rings

If you’re like me, you remember to use the coasters strategically placed in the most useful places around the house. But sometimes the iced drinks are left out so long that even the coasters can’t handle the condensation that is running over the sides. So how do you prevent that and save your tables from the inevitable water ring? Here’s a little trick that I use for preventing that- with just one thing you probably already have at home right…
